ABOUT US
A few years ago, the Lord spoke to His son, Pastor Godday Okosun and empowered him with the vision for a new parish under The Redeemed Christian Church of God. To encourage him, the Lord promised him that “Men and Money will not be a problem if he does not Mess up!” With this at the back of his mind, and after much prayer for God’s further direction, Goodnews Haven was birthed on 5th March, 2005. The first service took place in his living room at 94 Austen close, Thamesmead with his family, that is, himself, his wife Oluwayemisi Adenike, and the then 3 children, Favour, Honour and Marvel. One thing he will never forget about this service was while he was bubbling that they had a wonderful and successful 1st service, Honour then 5 years old suddenly said, “When are we going to Church?” What the Lord laid in his son’s heart was a church that will impact the community {though not a community church}; a church that preaches holiness and lives a life of holiness; a church that loves; a church that is caring and is indeed a family church.
After the 3rd service on the 20th of March 2005 in his living room, it became apparent that a bigger place of worship was needed as there were more than 10 adults on the day. Miraculously, the Lord took us to Broadreach Training Centre at 145 Nathan Way. It was in this place we grew in strength and number to the extent that during service, members would be in the one room worship place and along the corridor while some had to stand. One slogan that became popular then was asking those in the gallery (corridor) to shout halleluyah.
One scripture that kept coming to our Pastor’s mind which eventually became the motto of the church was Psalm 107:30 “….and the Lord brought us to our desired haven”. It was not surprising therefore that the Lord miraculously provided a more befitting place of worship of our own for us directly opposite 145 Nathan Way, by September of the same year. And true to God’s promises, He brought the people to provide the money without raising any pledge. Services are always full of fun, lively and in the presence of the Holy Ghost and members soon dubbed the church "a place where goodnews is manufactured, packaged and dispatched and as a place to “kabash” (bang heavens with prayers) the windows of Heaven. Indeed, it has been a sanctuary of rest, and a haven of GOODNEWS.
One song that is never not far from the lips of the Man of God is “Come and see o…” and surely testimonies abound, of new born babies, of weddings/marriages, new mortgages, visas granted, promotions, new businesses, lives touched and the aged and young impacted. God has by his grace enabled his people to touch the community with programmes such as the Goodnews Anointing Service {GAS), Touch the Master’s Garment (TMG) and the Summer Sunsplash in 2006. In 2007 programmes such as the Marriage Seminar and Seminar on Multi-media were held to the Glory of God. A prayer walk round Kellner Road and every member praying from their home to the Church also took place in 2007
The house to the Glory of God has continued to grow with the 3M’s being supremely evident in action. |
